1. Introduce to Education Quality

Begin by thinking about what it means to be healthy. Then, try to answer these questions:

  1. What does it mean to have friends with disabilities?
  2. Describe how you would help people with disabilities!
  3. How do you treat your friends with disability?

2. Explore the Front and Back Covers

Go to the link to explore the book: The Speckled Magpie
Start by examining the front cover of “The Speckled Magpie” Pay attention to the details of the image and title. Notice what the girl is holding and look at the landscape around her. The hills and grass may give you clues about where the story takes place. Imagine where the children in the picture might be going. Then, based on what you see, try to predict and answer these questions:

  1. Who is the author?
  2. Identify, all the pictures on the front cover
  3. Based on the front cover and back cover of the book, can you tell who is the bird?
  4. Mention all colour in the front cover!
  5. Describe the expression of the bird!
  6. Describe all the information which are in the front cover!

Next, take a look at the back cover and read the summary. This will give you more insight into the story. Use your knowledge and your observation to answer these questions:

  1. Could you mention all the information on the back cover!
  2. What is the colour in the back cover?
  3. Based on the summary on the back cover, can you predict who is the key characters, and setting?
  4. Based on the summary on the back cover, can you predict what is the story about?
  5. Can you identify the symbol on the back cover, and what is the meaning?

1. Listen and Enjoy the Story

Now, you will listen as your teacher or a classmate reads the story aloud, or you will read it yourself. Pay close attention to the characters’ challenges as they travel to collect clean water. After the reading, think about the key elements of the story.
